Obama Launches iPhone App, Makes Everyone A Campaign Worker

Posted by: Jen Kramer

Article is here.

Leave politics aside for the moment, and just consider the beauty of this application.

The problem: You need to get millions of people to vote for you in an election.

The details: You know that personal contact is the best way to win voters. But personal contact needs to happen regularly. It's just not possible to do this when you must reach millions of people.

You also know that voters can be influenced by friends and family, and that conversations are happening around the country about Candidate A and Candidate B, and "Which Is Better".

The solution:  This app is just brilliant, because it folds in the best of technology to solve a real-world problem.

From the above article:

* Call Friends: A great volunteering tool that lets you make a difference any time you want by talking to people you already know. Your contacts are prioritized by key battleground states, and you can make calls and organize results all in one place.
* Call Stats: See nationwide Obama ‘08 Call Friends totals and find out how your call totals compare to leading callers.
* Get Involved: Do more. Find and contact your local Obama for America HQ.

You can also quickly and easily get news, campaign updates, and get to Obama's website.

This is a "killer app" for the youth vote. It taps into their comfort with technology, their love of cell phones and chatting with friends, and that competitive streak, wanting to call more people than others on the list.

Many kudos to the Obama camp for coming up with yet another brilliant innovation coming out of politics.  If anyone knows about how to reach a diverse market quickly, it's politicians, and this is a great way to do it.
