Cool Joomla Tip of the Day: Back-end Welcome ScreenPosted by: Jen Kramer on Sep 11, 2009 |

If you ever installed the sample data in Joomla, you've seen that little "welcome" message over on the right side of the screen, right in the control panel.
Ever wondered how to get rid of it? Ever wondered if you could make your own, so that it was actually useful to your client and not just you?
It's easy to do!
1. Log into the back end of Joomla and go to Extensions - Module Manager.
2. Switch over to the Administrator modules. By default, you're looking at the Site modules. The links for switching are on the left side of the Module Manager, just under the name "Module Manager".
3. If you have the sample data installed, you'll see a module called Welcome, in a module position of cpanel. Click on this to open it. It's just a standard custom HTML module, and it works the same way that the custom HTML module works on the front end. Scroll down to the editing box at the bottom, and edit away!
If you don't have the sample data installed, click the New button in the upper right corner, then choose Custom HTML for the type of module. Scroll down to the Custom Output (editing) box and type in your message as you wish. Assign the module a position of cpanel, and save. You may need to adjust the order of the modules so your message comes up first and open by default. Just make sure it's the first module listed of all modules in the cpanel position.
Of course, if you want to get rid of the welcome screen, just unpublish it or delete it.
This is a great way to make a note to your client about things like how to contact you for technical support, a link to their online documentation, links to other online Joomla resources, etc, and it's easy to find.
Have fun!
